It Didn't Register

JUST FOR FUN - It Didn't Register by Phil

One day last month I was in our guest bathroom (which used to be our kid's bathroom) when I stepped on a soft spot in the floor. Oh no!!! I got down to examine and found the hole under the carpet felt rectangular in shape and was a little cooler than the surrounding area. Wait a minute, could this be a floor vent that was accidentally carpeted over and forgotten? I grabbed a utility knife from the garage, and thought, "what's the worst that can happen?" (On a side note, I think this quite often with widely varying results.) I plunged the knife in the center of the sag and was greeted by a refreshing rush of cool, air-conditioned air. After more sawing and a quick trip to the hardware store (lead me not into temptation) for a floor register, we now have an air conditioned and heated guest bathroom!

We've lived in our house for eighteen years, many of which involved our kids complaining their bathroom was either too hot or cold, and the answer was hidden under the carpet the whole time.

I wonder how many blessings God has waiting for us that are just out of sight and overlooked? We rush about our daily lives and never recognize the refreshment waiting below the surface. Sometimes we need to stop, cut through our busyness and discover what God has had waiting the whole time. And like my floor register revelation, the best position to discover these blessings may be on our knees.

That bathroom is so comfortable now, I think I'll grab my Bible and go hang out. Besides, what better place to purge my problems and "flush" my worries away?

Plumbing the depths of God's goodness,
Phil and Pam

Cinco de Yummy! by Phil I'm counting down the days to Cinco de Mayo, which celebrates Mexico's victory over the French on May 5, 1862. Strangely enough, Cinco de Mayo is an American holiday and rarely celebrated in Mexico. Either way, it's a great excuse to eat burritos and tamales! I'm personally in favor of all food related holidays. I love to eat Irish food on St. Patrick's Day, Chinese on the Chinese New Year, Italian on Valentine's Day (I'm not sure why, but who's arguing?), American...

More Than Conquerors by Phil On Easter Sunday the sermon was based on one of my favorite chapters in the Bible - Romans 8. I was following along in my Blue Letter Bible app*, and tapped on the phrase “more than conquerors” in verse 37. I knew from previous study that in the Greek this phrase is just one word - Hypernikao, but I’d never looked at the tense of the word. I’m not a Greek scholar, but here’s what I understand. In ancient or Biblical greek, each verb has one of four moods, three...

Keep it Simple! by Phil I have a whole new appreciation for God. Let me explain… Our family has always loved games. As the kid’s were growing up, we had regular game nights, and now that they have moved on, we have a dinner and game night once a week with my mom. Playing games is a lot more engaging than plopping in front of the TV and it keeps the wheels clicking in the old noggin. In between my woodworking commissions I like to experiment with projects to see where my creativity takes me....
