The Missing Piece

The Missing Piece by Phil

For Father's Day this year, my Chicago daughter sent a mystery package. It contained a huge book of logic games and a Murder Mystery puzzle where you have to assemble the puzzle to solve the mystery. How fun! To make it more challenging, there is no picture on the box to show you what the completed puzzle will look like. My mom was over one evening and she, Pam and I spent the whole evening figuring out which piece went where. We didn't finish, but a great time was had by all.

It has been a long time since we worked a puzzle. We used to do them quite often and always enjoyed the challenge and time spent together in the quest to find the final piece. Being the frugal (aka cheap) shopper, most of our puzzles came used from the thrift store. This added an extra layer of mystery to our game nights. The majority of the time everything turned out fine, but occasionally we came across a puzzle someone had donated that didn't have all the pieces. (Some people are just mean!) We wouldn't know this was the case until the puzzle was nearly complete and the final piece was nowhere to be found. How frustrating!! There may have been 999 pieces and taken hours to assemble, but what good is a puzzle with one piece missing? We'd box it up and throw it in the garbage where there was great weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Life can be a lot like that. You can spend hours, even years, assembling all the pieces for a good life - family, finances, possessions, career, recreation... but if there is a missing piece, your "puzzle" will never be complete. For many people, that missing piece is a relationship with Christ. And like a jigsaw puzzle, they may not realize there is anything missing until their life is almost finished. After all that time and effort, what good is a life that can never be complete?

There was another aspect of our thrift store puzzle adventures. The whole time we were building them, there was always a nagging unease, wondering if all the pieces were present or if our time and efforts would end in frustration. One simple solution is to start with a new puzzle. When you break the seal and pour brand new pieces on the table, you know all the pieces are present to lead to a complete and satisfying conclusion. It still takes work and effort, but there is peace in knowing there is no missing piece.

The same principle applies to our lives. The only way to have peace is to start new. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." - 2 Corinthians 5:17. And how can we know there won't be any missing pieces? "And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:19.

If you are missing the piece that brings peace, today is a great time to break the seal and start afresh. Visit here to get started - https://peacewithgod.net/steps.

"Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:7 NLT

Amen!

Welcome to September! The temperatures are beginning to fall, the kids are back in school, Labor Day is in the rear view mirror. That can only mean one thing... CHRISTMAS! The sanctuary has been completely renovated with state-of-the-art audio and...

To Mato or Not To Mato by Phil As Summer is slowly winding down, it's a great time to reflect on all the things the season brings - heat, humidity, annoying insects, heat, sunburn, heat... OK, so summer is not exactly my favorite season. But there is one thing that makes all the sweaty, sticky discomfort endurable - home grown tomatoes!!!!!! I'm not talking about those puny little grape-looking things you put on salads. I'm talking fist-sized, deep red, thin-skinned, meaty chunks of juicy...

Inflict or Entrust? by Phil Pam and I have been working through the book of Job in our daily devotion time. Job's so-called friends display the common mindset in ancient times. If good things came your way, it was because God was blessing you for being good. If bad things happened, God was cursing you for being bad. In our modern "evolved" culture we still believe half of that. If good things come our way it's either because we deserve it or "we sure were lucky!" When the bad comes, we are...
